Metabolomics Core Facility
Following genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, metabolomics is a powerful tool considered to be the next step for a comprehensive illustration of biological pathways in organisms. The metabolic profile or expression levels of metabolites reflect final physiological state in response to biotic and abiotic stimulation. Moreover, metabolites act as messengers intimately entwined with cell signaling between individuals and species. Therefore, increased attention has been devoted to using metabolomics for the qualification and quantification of small molecules. Since its founding in 2009, the Academia Sinica Metabolomics Core Facility (ASMCF) has supported the demand for metabolomics analyses, including services for mass spectrometry-based metabolomics analysis. In addition to targeted and predefined candidates, untargeted analyses are provided (also referred to as global metabolite profiling). With advanced instruments, such as liquid chromatography coupled with high resolution-mass spectrometry, we are able to provide a metabolite profile with high accuracy and sensitivity even in a complex biological sample.
