Introduction

The Department of Academic Affairs and Instrument Service was first established as the Academic Affairs Office (AAO) on January 1, 2002. AAO, headed by a director and supported by a senior secretary, was comprised of two sections: the Section of Academic Development and the Section of Academic Evaluation.

After the Revised Organization By-Laws of Academia Sinica had been passed, AAO and the Center of Instrument Service were merged into the Department of Academic Affairs and Instrument Service (DAAIS) in January 2014. DAAIS, now led by a director-general and supported by a senior secretary, oversees three sections: the Section of Academic Development, the Section of Academic Evaluation and the Section of Instrument Service.

The current Director-General of DAAIS is Dr. Chun-Hung Lin (林俊宏), whose appointment commenced on July 7, 2017. Former directors and their appointment period are as follows:
Dr. Shih-Hsiung Wu (吳世雄), Distinguished Research Fellow (January, 2002 to December 2007)
Dr. Ting-Kuo Lee (李定國), Distinguished Research Fellow (January 2008 to December 2011)
Dr. Te-Chang Lee (李德章), Distinguished Research Fellow (January 2012 to August 2016)
